Motor Racing at Taupo

I am in Taupo at the moment to photograph round 1 of the Toyota Finance 86 series, great to see the new colour schemes on some of the returning drivers from last year and great to see a few new faces. Looks like we are in for a great weekend although the weather forecast aint great!

This was shot as part of a big budget commercial campaign fo the Inter Islander back in the mid 80's in the days of Medium Format transparency film! The plane was booked for about 4-00pm but it was decided that I just wait in the upstairs lounge of the Aero club rooms at Wellington Airport until we saw the Ferry leaving the heads, well, come 5pm there was still no sign of the ferry and by that stage we were told that it was running VERY late ( no kidding ). we finally got the word at about 6pm that it was on the way and I was getting VERY nervous about the light and wondering if it was going to hold, deadlines were tight and there was no chance of a re-shoot. As it turned out, the Ferry sailed through heads right on dusk, the photos got used in a campaign and went to win awards in the NZIPP competition, this is one of the out takes from that shoot.
